Whee! Finally. After waiting 2 weeks, the second episode of The Closer is online now!  I was excited when I found out earlier this evening.  I’m not sure what took them so long to get it up, but they have episode 2 and 3 online now and it’s great! I only missed the second one and I was so excited to watch it.  So, I carefully type in my address bar on my browser and hit enter.  I’m waiting patiently as one of my most favorite shows will be broadcasting to me! On demand! A private viewing, w00t!

I select the link that says “The Closer” and then proceed to select “Full Episodes” and then the moment I had been waiting for…..I click “The Closer – Speed Bump”.  I am giddy with excitement.  The kids are in bed and my husband is in bed and the pesky cat even went to bed with him.

The episode starts out quickly as they always do.  There is the body.  There is one of the quirky detectives doing quirky things….oooooo, A nice relaxing hour is upon me!  I rarely watch TV.  Let me tell you it has to be a damn good show for me to consider watching it.  I get bored very easily.  This show is a grabber and it is good.  The cast is awesome and Kyra Sedgwick is fantastic!

The end of the first section and a commercial.  Internet commercials are never very long, so that’s great!  Hey, there’s a second commercial, oh wait, it’s a full on TNT FAIL.  This is what I got:

WTF? I need Windows?  Have they NOT noticed that there are people out there who use Macs?  Or use Linux? Or ANYTHING BUT Windows?  Now I’m ticked.  So I go to TNT’s site to complain.  Now where is that link for “Contact Us”?  OK, it must be on the bottom of the page.  I scroll down.  Nice…

See that grey line with very faint almost the same color words?  Ya, I didn’t either.  FAIL again.  I had to highlight it to find the right link.  Then I find this in the FAQ:

Here’s the text if you can’t read it:

Why can’t I view full episodes on a Mac? would like to apologize for not being able to accommodate Mac users.

The issue is related to the Windows Media Player, specifically video with Digital Rights Management (DRM). This is because the WMP for the Mac is not supported directly by Microsoft. Our agreement with the studios that produce the shows stipulates that their content be protected (full episodes) from piracy with DRM software.

Additionally, WMP is more universal than other platforms like QuickTime and Flash Video for distributing protected content.

OK, first, they are not sorry or they would have made it compatible by now.  WMP is more universal than Flash?  I highly doubt it if you won’t play your tv show on a Mac or Linux or anything not a Windows machine. That does NOT define universal.  Let’s just look at the definition of universal shall we?  I got this from the Merriam-Webster dictionary online at

Main Entry:
1uni·ver·sal Listen to the pronunciation of 1universal
Middle English, from Anglo-French, from Latin universalis, from universum universe
14th century
1: including or covering all or a whole collectively or distributively without limit or exception;especially : available equitably to all members of a society <universal health coverage>2 a: present or occurring everywhere b: existent or operative everywhere or under all conditions<universal cultural patterns>3 a: embracing a major part or the greatest portion (as of humankind) <a universal state><universal practices> b: comprehensively broad and versatile <a universal genius>4 a: affirming or denying something of all members of a class or of all values of a variableb: denoting every member of a class <a universal term>5: adapted or adjustable to meet varied requirements (as of use, shape, or size) <a universal gear cutter> <a universal remote control>

Ya, only playing on 1 platform is NOT NOT NOT universal.  Spin it how you want, but TNT is failing at the basic usage of the English language.

So TNT, I challenge you to come out of your little tiny world of backwards convention, think just a little outside the box and realize that you are being very exclusionary, and really, not at all inclusive to us minorities.  Embrace the political correctness of posting for all the internet users.

In summary, TNT = FAIL.  I have no doubt that if you wanted to badly enough, you could make this right.
